What is Mixable 09?
MIXABLE is a yearly UK contest that gives school kids a chance to remix, rework and replay a previously released song from a new and exciting band. Whoever comes up with the best version as chosen by the band will get to work further on the track in a full studio, and this new version will then be featured on an upcoming release with full production and performing credits!
The five finalists will also receive a copy of Microsoft's new 'Songsmith' software.
Entry is open to anyone aged between 11 and 18 at school, 6th form or A level college in the year of the contest. Entrants will win favour by being unique, creative and original.
Closing date for entries is 22nd July 2009

'Girl You Never Knew' - Georgia Wonder
This year's MIXABLE song is 'Girl You Never Knew' from UK band Georgia Wonder. Featured on Bliss TV for over six months, and winning praise from Pop Justice and Record Of The Day, this simple but powerful song has been chosen as it lends itself to many different interpretations.
Here is the original YouTube video and here is a new version that a fan created recently. As you can see, it's easy to take this song in a new direction. But where will you take it?
Students are encouraged to replay different instruments of any kind over the song, remix it using any production or computer techniques they like, and rework the song in any way, shape or form - there will be a lot of entries so the only way to stand out from the crowd is to be different!
Do it in a style you actually like - Hip Hop, Dub Reggae, Breakbeat, Grime, Electronica - fire up your sequencers, get your friends involved, and show how your favourite kind of music rules no matter what!
